The HTC Vive is a VR headset created by HTC in collaboration with Valve and it’s one of the most expensive but also one of the best VR units out there. It’s created mostly for gaming but it does bring in front a wide range of amazing and fun experiences that you do not want to miss.
HTC Vive also works at 90 Hz, which is identical to the Oculus. The resolution for the two screens is the same as well, however the device does tend to offer 70 sensors that make the experience more accurate and immersive. It operates in larger rooms and it does track space really well all so that it can create a very immersive, fun virtual environment that you can explore as you want.
They use a lighthouse system that allows the system to track your user movement without a problem. HTC Vive also integrates a front facing camera that integrates the software which is needed to identify the moving parts in the room and they even integrated a dedicated safety system which offers value and helps protect you against the hazards that can appear at times.
Integrated with the package is a very powerful software and, since HTC Vive is also created with the help of Valve, the unit integrates seamlessly with Steam and its store. In fact, the gaming app has integrated VR support that allows you to access your games in a virtual interface.
And since Valve has encouraged the use of VR in games, the most games on the store are created specifically for this unit which is a very good thing since you can play quite a lot of games.
Unlike the competitors, HTC Vive does offer a complete package and a good set of accessories that helps take the experience to new heights all the time. It’s a refined product mainly because it adds in a lot of immersion and thanks to the dedicated controllers you do feel like you interact with a large world right in front of you.
Hardware-wise, you need a high spec computer to run HTC Vive based content all due to the high computation requirements that come with VR. This does require quite an investment alongside the VR unit but it is worth it because you get to experience the future in a way that you never did up until this point.
Despite the $800 tag price, HTC Vive is the most complete VR unit on the market and it also features some of the best specs as well. The integration of controllers makes the experience great and very immersive, not to mention the overall performance is solid. Thanks to Steam integration, you will never run out of games to play, unfortunately Vive is suitable at least at this point only for the gamer market. But with many apps and games coming soon, this is definitely a very good competitor for Oculus and other companies in this sector!
